Staying Afloat

"The best thing about Staying Afloat is its fanciful and unique staging. Anna Kiraly (Set Design) makes a perfectly credible and rather wonderful looking floe out of dozens and dozens of inflated plastic bags…blue on the perimeter, white at the center. A few chairs and a table are covered with white plastic. When Priscilla digs a hole in the ice to avoid a storm, the characters huddle under the table. Fish are long, blue, white and silver plastic shapes which, when “bitten” turn red at the end, exposing the innards. A particularly large capture turns out to be a seal, whose skin Priscilla gifts to Wendy...."
